I-League: DSK eye first win against Mumbai

Pune, Feb 6 (IANS) DSK Shivajians Football Club will look to register their first victory in their second home game when they take on Mumbai FC in an I-League match at the Balewadi Stadium here on Sunday.

Having begun their campaign with couple of away matches, DSK Shivajians started with a 0-0 draw against Sporting Club de Goa before losing their next two matches. They went down fighting 0-2 to Aizawl FC and were unlucky to go down 0-1 to East Bengal in their third match of the campaign.

The Pune-based side’s first ever home match also ended in a 2-0 defeat at the hands of defending champions Mohan Bagan AC.

They are now placed at the bottom of the table with one point from four games, having lost three and drawn one. On the other hand, the visitors are placed fourth with eight points after two wins and two draws from four games.

Mumbai started their campaign with a 0-0 draw first against Shillong Lajong FC and followed it up with a similar result against East Bengal. The Mumbai-based club then registered two back-to-back victories against Salgaocar FC (2-1) and Bengaluru FC (2-0), respectively.

“With every match, our performance has improved and the entire team is working hard and everybody is in good spirits and looking forward to register first victory in tomorrow’s match,” DSK Shivajians coach Derrick Pereira said at the pre-match press conference on Saturday.

“We are yet to score, however we had quite a few chances in the last match and have been working on the finishing during the last week. We have seen the confidence and chemistry grow and develop with every passing day,” he said.

Pereira praised Mumbai as a fighting team and hoped to give their best to register their first win of the league.

“Tomorrow’s match will be a good match as Mumbai FC is a good fighting team and understating between team is very good. They have a good squad including a few very special players. They are also on a good run of form, having beaten Bengaluru FC recently. On the other hand, our performance is getting better with every passing match and we are confident that we can get points on the table,” the coach said.
