Lok Sabha adjourned till noon

New Delhi, Dec 14 (IANS) The Lok Sabha was adjourned till noon on Monday with Congress MPs shouting slogans against the central government on Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy being excluded from a function on Tuesday to be attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The agitated Congress members trooped into the well of the house soon after it met for the day. Speaker Sumitra Mahajan told them that she would take up their matter after the question hour but they did not listen to her and began shouting slogans like the “prime minister must answer” as to why Chandy was excluded from a programme being held in his state.

They held placards reading “stop political vendetta”, “It’s a clear case of insult” and “PM should answer”.

The protesting members shouted “where ‘sabka saath, sabka vikas’ had gone?” and “what happened to federalism?”.

Mahajan again requested them to return to their seats but her pleas fell on deaf ears; she then adjourned the house till 1200 p.m.

Before the start of the day’s session, over 20 members of the Congress gathered in front of the statue of Mahatma Gandhi with placards and banners and shouted slogans against the Modi government.

Modi is expected to arrive in Kerala’s port city of Kochi on Monday afternoon. He is on a two-day visit to the state.
