Madikeri: Poetess Smita Amritaraj to Receive Gowramma Award

Madikeri: The annual district-level Gowramma women writers’ award for 2015-16 has been bagged by Smita Amritaraj, a poetess from Chembu near Sampaje.


Her collection of poetry, ‘tuTiyanchali ulida kavitegaLu’ (‘poems whispered through the lips’ edges’) has been chosen for the award. The award will be presented to her at a function to tbe held in Patrika Bhavan here on August 11.

This anthology as well as the earlier ‘Kaala kaayuvudilla’ (‘Time does not wait’) and a prose anthology, ‘AngaLadanchina kanavarikegaLu’ (‘Reveries by the yardside’) are already in published form.

A number of poems penned by her have been published in state-level journals. She had been honoured with ‘Sahitya Ratna’ award by Chandana Sahitya BaLaga of Sullia in 2013.
