Madikeri: Well-known Cooperative Leader Cheranda Sabu Nanaiah (64) Shot Dead

Madikeri: A long-time doyen of the Cooperative sector, Cheranda K Sabu Nanaiah (64) of Kongana in B Shettigeri village of southern Kodagu, was shot dead by unidentified persons on Monday around 8-30 am.

He was riding his scooter from his home towards his coffee estate. Several shots are said to have been fired at him and he fell to the ground. He reportedly died of heavy bleeding the soon after.

The motive for the murder is not known. But informed sources said that there were disputes between him and his brothers regarding property matters. But the exact identity of those involved is yet to be known from a proper inquiry.

At the time of his death, he was serving as the president of Virajpet Taluk Primary Cooperative Agricultural and Rural Development (PCARD) Bank. He was also director of the Kodagu District Cooperative Union, having also served as its vice president earler.
