Magsaysay Awardee P Sainath to deliver Endowment Lecture on August 20

Udupi: Senior Journalist Magsaysay awardee Palagummi Sainath will deliver an endowment lecture on Sunday, 20 August at the Town Hall said that the organizing committee member Dr P Bhandary.

He was speaking at a press meet held at the press club on Saturday, August 12, the programme is being organised as part of the endowment lecture series ‘ Talluru Nudimale – 2017, being hosted by Tallur Family Trust (R.) Tallur.

P Sainath will talk on the subject ‘The story of rural India in the digital age’ The youth and children of our nation are oblivious to the hardships endured by farmers in rural India, thanks to the lack of prominence the farmers receive from the mainstream media, says P Sainath. In his talk, he intends to contemplate on the possibilities of depicting rural India in the digital world.

Senior Journalist G N Mohan will moderate a post-lecture discussion. Senior Journalist Nagesh Hegde, economist and writer Prof. M S Sriram and Dr Narayana of Azeem Premji University, Bengaluru will build a dialogue with P Sainath.

P Sainath belongs to the rare breed of journalists who have trod the path of developmental journalism. His works have shed light on the sufferings of farmers in rural India and this is a rare opportunity in Udupi to listen to him.

On this occasion P Sainath will also release the book ‘ Nunnanna Betta’ a collection of columns written by journalist Rajaram Tallur, he added.
