Man of Shirva Origin Dies in Expressway Pile-up in Mumbai
Udupi / Mumbai: Abdul Hamid Mehmood (45), son of Mehmood Hassan of Shirva in the district, died in a ghastly pile-up of vehicles near Chembur on the Eastern Freeway on Tuesday around 8-30 am.
Mehmood was an industrialist, residing in Mazgaon for several years. He is survived by wife and three children.
A Toyota Innova, Swift Dzire and a taxi were involved in the pile-up. The north-bound Thane-registered Innova was being driven Abdul Hamid Mehmood. The car is said to have gone out of his control at a curve and flew over the median.
It landed straight on a south-bound taxi on the rightmost lane of the freeway. It was driven by Nandlal Jaiswal (46) with a passenger Vijay Kumar Kelkar (50). Both of them too died.
A Swift Dzire car was also involved in the pile-up. Its two passengers, whose names were not immediately available, were admitted to Shatabdi hospital in Chembur.
