Mangalore University awards PhD to Vincent Alva

Mangaluru: It is befitting to bestow PhD to a person who is a continuous learner, a teacher par excellence, an organiser of high standards, a music lover, a dramatist, a renowned orator and role model to the youth and society at large.

Vincent Alva hails from Pamboor. He did his graduation at the Poorna Prajna College, Udupi and pursued his Masters Degree in English from Mangalore University. He began his teaching career at Pompei College, Aikala. Presently he is serving as Associate Professor of English at Milagres College, Kallianpur, Udupi.

He was the member of Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy too. His articles, stories and columns continually appear in print and electronic media. He has translated Jnana Pita Awardee, U.R. Ananthamoorthy’s Novel Samskara into Konkani, which has been published by Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy.

He has been awarded PhD for the thesis entitled “Interpreting and interrogating Indian traditions: A study of the fictional works of Gita Mehta, Shashi Tharoor and Rohinton Mistry”. He was successfully guided by Prof. D R Shashidhara, Department of English, Mangalore University.
