Mangaluru: M M Ahmed, president of the Central Haj Committee, on Sunday gave an assurance that a financial assistance of Rs 1.5 crore would be given for the construction of a Haj Bhavan in the city.
Speaking to mediapersons, he said that already the construction of a Haj Bhavan in Bengaluru at a cost of Rs 40 crore was in progress. After receiving the ownership document of 1.94 acre land in Mangaluru, the funds would be released, he said.
DK district Haj advisory committee president S M Rasheed said that the land had already been transferred in the name of the department of minority affairs. He also pleaded with the Central Committee for additional assistance.
Mangaluru north MLA Moidin Bava said that the state government had already set aside Rs 1 crore for the Haj Bhavan here and sought a grant of Rs 2 crore from the Central Committee.
