Mangaluru: Areca Growers Take Their Grievances to Union Minister Nirmala Sitaraman

Mangaluru: A delegation consisting of arecanut growers and representatives of areca cooperatives from Karnataka, led by Rajya Sabha member Ayanur Manjunath, former MLA Araga Jnanendra and the Central Areca and Cocoa Marketing and Processing Cooperative’s (CAMPCO) president Konkodi Padmanabha, earlier this week called on Union minister of state for commerce and industry (independent charge) Nirmala Sitaraman in New Delhi.


The delegation has demanded inclusion of betelnut in the negative to prevent import of arecanut from other countries, especially from Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Nepal.

CAMPCO director Thimmappa Shetty, MAMCOS Ltd Shimoga vice president Y S Subrahmanya, TUMCOS Chennagiri president H S Shivakumar and agriculturist S M Raviraj Hebbar were also part of the delegation.
