Mangaluru: Ban Apart, Illegal Sand Transportation Continues – Lorry Seized in Kannur

Mangaluru: Although the district administration has banned transportation of sand, the activity continues in the dead of night at various spots.

When sub inspector M D Maddi from the Kankanady station in Maroli and his men were on night patrol in the early hours of Monday around 4-30, a lorry was found emerging from the bank of Netravati at Kannur. It was laden with sand.

It was stopped and the driver was questioned. In custody, he confessed that he was only obeying the orders of Mohammed Mustafa, the owner of the lorry and sand contractor Mohammed Faisal who had stored heaps of sand on the bank.

The lorry was seized in the operation. There are reports of seizures in Puttur and elsewhere also.
