Mangaluru: ‘BYTESTRUCK-2015’ – A Platform to Exhibit open Software Solutions

Mangaluru: On 4th of Nov. 2015, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, P A College of Engineering conducted BYTESTRUCK-2015, a showcase event to explore the open software usefulness to the High school and PU students. This event was organized for spreading awareness of Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) among students and hence to encourage them to use Open software. The Department of Computer Science & Engineering and GLUG PACE is continuously working on spreading the awareness of FOSS among PACE students as well as neighbouring PU College and High School students by organizing various events using FOSS.

The programme was presided by Dr Abdul Sherief, Principal of P A College of Engineering. The chief guest of the function was Abdulla Ibrahim P A, Executive Director, P A Educational trust. He stressed the importance of participating in these kinds of events which help the student community to know about developments in the IT field. And also highlighted the participation in such programmes held to exhibit their knowledge among their peers. Dr Ramis, M K, Vice Principal, P A College of Engineering mentioned that the creative thinking of students will be exposed by participating in these kind of programmes. The analytical and logical thinking of students is unveiled in these kind of events. Dr Zahid Ansari, Dean, Research, addressed the students and explored the usefulness of open software. Dr M Sharmila Kumari, Head of the Department of Computer Science & Engineering gave report on BYTESTRUCK event. Dr Sharmila Kumari mentioned the contributions of GLUG PACE team for all round development of society in terms of many contributions such as RAKSHAK, an user friendly software to farmers for their better living, and also helps in spreading the culture of open software solutions and its usage.
More than 200 enthusiastic students of PU College and High School, students from Mangalore region and Kerala state participated in ‘BYTESTRUCK-2015’.
The winners for Bytestruck 2015 are as follows:
Alice (PUC Section)
1st Place: Saurav and Adithya from St Aloysius Pre University College.
2nd Place: Darren and Sohan from St Aloysius Pre University College.
3rd Place: Ishan Pillai and Faisal from Expert Science Pre University College.
Scratch (High School Section):
1st Place: Navami Shenoy and Saishree from Sharada Vidyalaya.
2nd Place: Shanwill Pinto and Vaman Kamath from St. Aloysius High School.
3rd Place: Nikhil Bisoi and Amogh Desai from Sharada Vidyalaya.
The overall championship was bagged by St Aloysius College, Mangalore, and the runner up goes to Sharadha Vidyalaya, Mangalore who gave a tough competition to the champions.
Safa Syed welcomed the guests and Aparna delivered the Vote of thanks. Sheeja Shetty compered the programme.
