Mangaluru: Premnagar in Bajjodi, lying beside the Pumpwell-Nantur stretch of national highway 66, is a growing residential extension in the city.
The residents had already been shocked by a daylight robbery on Tuesday. A stranger had barged into the house of Philomena Tauro, a home-alone senior citizen, and snatched her gold chain. No a case of theft has caused further insecurity in their minds.
Regina Pinto owns a house in the same locality but runs a paying guest facility in Kadri. She keeps visiting the Bajjodi house for upkeep once in two days.
When she heard about the robbery at the Tauro house, out of concern for her own property, she came to check her house. Her fear came true when she found the front door broken open. The steel cupboard in one of the rooms was also found broken open.
A pair of earrings worth Rs 7,500, imported speakers worth Rs 7,000, two gents’ watches and Rs 6,000 in cash have been taken away.
Both the cases are suspected to be the handiwork of persons who had made a study of the houses around, the people staying in them and their movements.
Rural police from Maroli have registered a case.
