Mangaluru: Communist Party Set to Celebrate 90 Years of Functioning

Mangaluru: Ninety years have passed since the founding of the Communist Party of India (CPI). To mark the occasion, the district committee is organizing a lecture session on Dec 27.

The sessions will be held at 11 am in the Simpson Soans auditorium at Neereshwalya in the city. The occasion will also commemorate the birth centenary of Simpson Soans, who was a prominent leader of the party in the district.

Prof Udaya Barkur of Mangaluru University will speak of the relevance of leftist thinking in the contemporary ambience. The second lecture, on the subject of the history of Communism and the challenges ahead will be delivered by CPI national politburo member Dr Siddanagouda Patil.

While P V Soans will be the chief guest on the occasion, the session will be presided over by district secretary B Shekhar.
