Mangaluru: MUDA Chairman, Ibrahim Kodijal held a press meet at the District Congress Office here, on January 20.
Speaking to the mediapersons, Ibrahim said, “Zilla Panchayat and Taluk Panchayat elections are scheduled to be conducted on February 20. Convention of Brahat Congress Karyakartha’s will be held at Cordel hall in Kulshekar, on January 23 at 11:00 am, to discuss the preparations needed and other arrangements for the upcoming elections.”
He said that Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) President, Dr GParameshwar and other Congress leaders like, Oscar Fernandes, HK Patil,Sudharshan, Ramanth Rai, UT Khader, Abhay Chandra Jain, JR Lobo, MohiudeenBava, Vasanth Bangera, Ivan D’Souza, Prathapchandra Shetty and Janardhan Poojarywill attend the meeting.
“We are sure that the Congress Party will win in all the districts as we had won the majority in the recent Vidhan Parishad elections. In many states like, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Haryana and Gujarat, Congress has won with a majority,” Ibrahim said. He lauded the work done by the party men during the MLC elections and said that the party workers were the key in ensuring victory of MLC Prathapchandra Shetty.
MLC Ivan D’Souza had earlier said in a press meet that as per KPCC directives, anyone willing to represent Congress Party have to submit an application and deposit Rs 10000 for the ZP election for a general category aspirant and Rs 5000 for women and SC/ST aspirants. For TP elections, general category aspirants have to deposit Rs 5000 and Rs 2500 by women and SC/ST aspirants.
Ibrahim Further said, “Already the aspirants have collected the application forms for the ZP and TP elections. After they submit the forms they will be scrutinized individually for their experience, work done, support from the people and their work towards upliftment of the poor. Based on these aspects suitable candidates will be selected to represent the Congress party in the elections.”
Speaking against BJP, Ibrahim said, “They promised us ‘Acche Din,’ but they are yet to come. The Congress party believes in providing social justice to all religions, it is the duty of all parties to protect the Indian culture and constitution.”
