Speaking on the occasion, District Minister In-charge Ramanath Rai said, “Today we all have gathered here to pay homage to the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi, on his 68th death anniversary. A series of functions are being organized throughout the country to mark the occasion. A lawyer by profession, Gandhi led the struggle for India’s independence from British rule by following the path of non-violence. Mahatma Gandhi is a true hero and a person whom the generations must follow. Mahatma Gandhi has done wonders for the nation. Mahatma Gandhi built and brought up the Congress party and today Congress is taking up many initiatives in all the fields.”

Congress leader, V R Sudarshan said “Today it is a sorrowful day for all of us, since we lost a great hero of our nation. On this occasion I would like to remind all the great contribution that he has made in human history for the establishment of peace, for which he had to pay the price with his life. I think his presence is sorely missed in the world today. Let us pray that God gives us a little bit of courage which Mahatma Gandhi had for fighting for what is right.”

MLC Ivan D’Souza, Youth Congress President Mithun Rai, MUDA President Ibrahim Kodijal and other congress leaders were also present on this occasion.
