Mangaluru: Defeat in Gram Panchayat Election in Ganjimath Drives Candidate to Suicide

Mangaluru: Chennappa (45), a resident of Kayardadi near Papemar of Malali village, had recently contested the gram panchayat election from the Badaga Ulipady ward of Ganjimath village.

He was supported by CPM and other parties. He campaigned on a big scale and had all confidence of winning.

The high expectations proved costly for him. When he came to know that he had lost, he appeared to have terribly disappointed.

On Monday, after attending to his routine work of milking the cows and the like, he left home. He is said to have walked straight towards a tree nearby and hanged himself from it.

No one had any hint about it. One of the nearby residents who had gone to pick mangoes at the spot found the body hanging from the tree.

The Bajpe police have registered a case.
