Mangaluru: ‘Dilkhush’ Movie-goers Likely to Throng as ‘Dilwale’ is Screened Unhindered

Mangaluru: Some fringe outfits had objected to the screening of SRK-starrer ‘Dilwale’ in the city a few days ago, on the pretext of his alleged statements against the rise of intolerance in the country.

Those who were against vigilantism said that their act itself was a sign of intolerance. Vidya Dinker, a well-respected homemaker and an intrepid woman social activist from the city took the battle on herself singlehandedly.

She filed a case against the group of people who stopped the screening and assaulted the movie-goers who had come to watch. Even little children were not spared in the assault. The video clippings of the victim kids narrating their trauma after the assault have gone viral.

All hell broke loose when Vidya took up the issue with the police. Highly uncharitable and vulgar responses about her were posted by some readers in the social media, obviously with an aim to unnerve her.

But being the fearless woman that she is, she did not give up nor did she get demoralized. She filed another case against the persons who posted those comments and also others who ‘liked’ those distasteful utterances.

The police, though with delay, took action against the persons for cyberbullying and booked them under specific sections of the law. City police commissioner Murugan too gave an assurance that protection would be provided to the cinema-houses. But the exhibitors would not take any chances.

Now, perhaps after being reassured of protection, four cinema-houses located in City Centre, Big Bazar and Forum Fiza malls have begun screening ‘Dilwale’ from Friday without any hitch or hindrance.

Whether the said movie deserves accolades or not, heavy crowds are expected around the weekends because of the free publicity the incidents gave it.

Sources from inside the said malls have a different story to tell. They say that some leaders of these outfits are involved in extortion of ‘protection money’ and that they are the ones who run security agencies functioning there. This is how information is being passed around about boys and girls of different communities moving together in the malls, which is often followed by incidents of ‘immoral policing’.

  1. Yes – this is the most important thing of our time. A product of Bollywood with silly songs and idiotic acting is more important than improving Somalia-level infrastructure in Mangaluru or real threats posed by ‘death cult’ members who shout ‘god is great’ in a foreign language while beheading the innocent victims.

    Modern India…RIP!!!

Sir, BJP is in ruling since last decade in Mangalore.Other than attending ‘Hindu Samajotsava’ and protest for compensation for street rowdy, our MP doesn’t even speak but at least our PM dares to say M-R-S.

Now today one Bajrang Dal thug threatens to overthrow elected government of Siddaramaiah in 3 hours.Well, Mangalore is all heading for Somalia direction. Even cleanup is taken over by local NGO since the last ‘Selfie with Jaddu’.

If the saffron ‘death cult’ continue there still patrolling with soft approach of law enforcement department, soon Mangaloreans will refugee in their own country.
