Mangaluru: Experienced teacher and educationist Dr N Sukumara of Makkala Mantapa fame has been chosen to preside over the 20th DK district Kannada literary meet to be held in the Government H P School premises at Kateel on Aug 28, 29 and 30.
Hailing from Jalsur in Sullia taluk of the district, he, after securing BEd degree, served in St Anne’s Secondary School in Virajpet, Kodagu, and later in St Philomena High School.
Later on, he obtained a MA degree from Benares Hindu University and MEd from Mysore University and served as a lecturer at Manipal College of Education.
In 1975, he moved over to Canada and studied in different universities. During his 12 years’ stay in Canada, he taught from lower level to the top rungs of field of education.
After returning to India, he served as director of the Manipal Institute of Languages for five years. Besides presenting scholarly research papers in several papers in international forums, he has guided a number of students in their PhD studies.
Currently, he runs the Makkala Mantapa in Darbe, Puttur, which is dedicated to educational counselling, studies and publishing books.
