Mangaluru: Excise Official Denies Pressure or Quota Demand on Liquor Licence-holders

Mangaluru: District’s deputy commissioner of excise George Pinto has clarified that his department had not issued any instructions to the effect that any liquor licence-holders had been given any minimum quota requirement in buying liquor. Neither has any indent been specified in the purchase, he has said.

He was responding to media reports that quota requirement had led to unauthorized sale of alcohol. No pressure was being exerted on the licence-holders regarding indents.

Suitable steps had been taken against illegal sale of alcohol and all such cases, after investigation by the department, were referred to judicial proceedings, he said.
