Mangaluru: The department of disability affairs of the Union ministry of social justice and empowerment recently handed over the best employer award to the department of health of Karnataka for providing in a single calendar year as many as 100 individuals who had been cured of leprosy in the state with employment, thereby ensuring a secure future for them.

The rehabilitation entailed provision of group D jobs to those who had grade-2 deformity. The award was presented by Union minister of finance and information and broadcasting Arun Jaitley in New Delhi. It was received on behalf of the department by state minister of health and family welfare U T Khader.

The award carried a purse of Rs 1 lakh and a citation. Since the award for the state government’s department, Khader, in the fitness of things, formally shared the proud achievement with chief minister Siddaramaiah who happened to be in Delhi around that time.

Back home, the U T Khader Fans’ Club, headed by Ashiq Kukkaje from Bantwal taluk, celebrated the happy moment in the circuit house on Kadri hills in the city on Dec 6 and shared sweemeats with others. They wished Khader a successful tenure as also further laurels for the department under his helm.
Kohinoor Abbas, Basheer Ahmed Kinya, Muhammed Ali Kammaradi, Razaq Kukkaje, Ismail Padpinangady, Nisar Malar, Muhammed Gerupadpu, Rasheed Mulki, Rehman Khan Kunjatbail, Basheer Kukkaje, Shareef Kukkaje, Nawfal Montugoli and others were present to greet the minister.
