Mangaluru: In a press meet held at the District Congress Office, MLA J R Lobo said that two pipes in Kannur have been damaged and people in Mangaluru are facing severe water crisis. Soil and the debris have been dumped on the pipeline which has caused damage.
Lobo further said that the Mangalore City Corporation should not allow anyone to dump the debris or soil on pipelines. “But the MCC officials did not even notice the soil dumped on the pipeline. When huge debris are dumped on the pipeline, it damages the pipes and people do not seem to understand this. Now the entire city is facing problem.”
He also said that he has instructed the MCC Assistant Commissioner to file an FIR against those who were responsible for dumping the debris at Kannur.
The pipeline will be repaired soon and by the afternoon of August 4, the water will be supplied. Lobo urged the people to co-operate till the water supply is restored.
He also said that places have been identified by the Mangaluru City Corporation for the dumping of debris. “We will make a dumping yard in Adyar and Kunjathbail. Discussions are going on with the officers of State Pollution Control Board for the permission. Once we get the permission, soil and debris will be dumped in Adyar and Kunjathbail,” he said.
