Mangaluru: Fire Breaks out in Ship Anchored at NM Port in Panambur – No Harm or Injury

Mangaluru: A sudden fire broke out in a ship which had arrived from Indonesia into the New Mangaluru port in Panambur on Friday evening.

The ship was laden with coal to be transported to the UPCL in Udupi district. Whlle the excavators were being used to unload the coal, fire was sparked off on the port side of the ship.

The port’s service arrived immediately and doused the fire. A major disaster was averted by their quick action. No part of the ship was damaged, nor was there any human injury.

Port sources said that when the weather is warm, coal could catch fire because of friction during unloading.
