Mangaluru: Fire in Dumping Yard at Pacchanady – Smoke and Stink Suffocate Residents

Mangaluru: The residents of Pacchanady and nearby Vamanjoor on the northeastern outskirts have been suffering from the smoke and stink hovering around. It has been caused by fire that has been breaking out in the waste dumping yard every now and then.

On Sunday, two fire-tenders were pressed into service and the fire was brought under fire. On Monday, the trash was still smouldering and smoke continued to emanate.

Experts said that the waste rotting in the yard generates methane gas, which catches fire with the high atmoshperic temperature in the air. Many residents around have complained of breathing difficulties as a result of smoke. .
