Mangaluru: A gang of three arriving in a car and a bike robbed a businessman of a huge amount near the Thokkottu junction on Sunday night.

Harish Shetty, who operates a bar at the same junction, was getting into his car with the day’s collection in his bag. Three unidentified persons surrounded the car.

One of them is said to have smashed the window glass of the car and demanded money from him. He also tried to snatch the gold chain in his neck, which, with the force used, snapped and fell in Shetty’s pocket.

In the meantime, the other two snatched  the amount of Rs 1.68 lakh which Shetty had with him. Immediately thereafter, all of them fled in the vehicles.

When Harish’s scream from help was heard by passersby, they came to his rescue but it was too late.
