Mangaluru: Gold, Foreign Currency Worth Rs 27 Lakh Seized from Two Passengers

Mangaluru: The customs officials at the international airport here, in two separate operations, made a huge haul of gold and foreign currency on Friday.

They detected gold weighing 90 gms and worth Rs 23.5 lakh being brought into country by a passenger from Dubai. The yellow metal was being smuggled in the form of powder, crayon, cornflakes, cream wafer, tumblers, snacks etc.

The passenger was produced in a city court and sent to 14 days’ judicial custody.

In another case, an outbound passenger flying to Dubai was found carrying Euro 4,400 in currency form. He had no documents concerning purchase and possession of this large amount. The value of the currency was put at Rs 3.31 lakh.
