Mangaluru: Haluvalli Ganesh Bhat to be Honoured with ‘Pathala Award’

Mangaluru: The Pathala Yahshagana Pratishtana (Edaneeru, Kasaragod) held a press meet at the Press Club here, on November 30.

Addressing the mediapersons, Harikrishna Punaroor, president of Pathala Yakshakala Pratishtana said, “This year senior Yakshagana artist, Haluvalli Ganesh Bhat will be awarded with the ‘Pathala Award’. It will be presented to him at Edaneeru Matha’s ‘Krishna Sabhabhavana’ on 5 December, 2015. This will be the eleventh time that we are giving this award.”

Haluvalli Ganesh Bhat is a well known ‘Stree Veshadhari’. He attained education till the 10th grade and then tried to pursue his career in the field of Yakshagana. He gave his first Yakshagana performance at the age of 20. He was associated with Yakshagana ‘Melas’ (touring troupes), such as the Dharmasthala Mela, Sunkadakatte Mela and Kateelu Mela. He is also well known for having portrayed characters such as Sthree Vesha, Pundu Vesha, Raja Vesha, Bannada Vesha, Poshaka Patragalu, Dashratha and more, the release said.

Ganesh Bhat will be honoured by Keshavananda Bharati Sripadam at Edaneeru Matha. Shakuntala T Shetty, MLA of Puttur, will be the chief guest and Dharmadharshi Horanadu Bheemeshwara Joshi will preside over the award function as well.
