Mangaluru: Hidayat, who plied his autorickshaw from the park in Olapete of Thokkottu, had been engaged by one Khursheed on Friday, Aug 28 around 8 pm to Natekal.
He consulted a fellow-driver about the fare that could be charged on night-time basis and then proceeded with Khursheed towards Natekal near Deralakatte. When the vehicle reached Kuttar, a group that arrived in a rikshwa and two bikes reportedly began trailing it.
When they reached a secluded point in Mangatte, the group pulled Hidayat out and started assaulted him with wooden clubs, resulting in fatal injuries leading to death.
The police went on the clues from Hidayat’s past record and arrested his first wife Sazilat on the very next day. She spilled the beans about the involvement of her relatives. The Ullal police have now arrested ten persons, including Sazil and Nisar of Alekala and Khursheed from near Kuttar. Hidayat was reportedly making attempts to speak to his son of three and a half years from Sazilat, which was not taken kindly by her relatives. Hidayat had also given the boy an expensive bar of chocolate.
Once earlier before the murder, Sazilat’s kin had given a threat to Hidayat’s life, according to police investigations.
