The Seventh Annual Day of Mount Carmel Central School (MCCCS) was celebrated on December 5, 2015 in the Mother Veronica auditorium, and it was an occasion where all students showcased their talents either through dance, music or drama. The programme began sharp at 4.00 p.m. with the arrival of President of the function Amrit Paul, IGP, Western Range, Mangaluru; Chief Guest Dr. T. J Quadros, President of AICS and Principal of Glowinstar Integrated School, Udupi accompanied by the school Joint Secretary Sr. Ida Barboza AC, Administrator Sr. Carissima AC. and Principal Sr. Melissa A. C. -the dignitaries were escorted to the hall by the school band playing their rhythmic beats.

MCCS follows a tradition that no programme begins without a prayer. Thus, once the guests were seated, the evening began by seeking Almighty’s blessings. India is known for its rich culture. Though we have modernized over the years, we still follow our age-old traditions to this date. We believe in ‘Athithi Devo Bhava. The guests and parents were warmly embraced with a Musical Welcome Dance which had a radiance of its own. This was followed by a welcome address by Sr. Melissa AC-the principal of the School. In her welcome address she said, “We believe that education is performance – i.e tests, assignments and class work. But today when we see our children on the stage, swaying blissfully, we believe that performance is also music, song, dance and drama – It is art and culture – the widening of the mind and the spirit, giving a brighter shade to education”.

The first segment of cultural programme began, which was a good mix of dance, music, drama, fun and frolic. It started with the dance by the students of class IV and V which was a vibrant mix of indigenous and exotic dance forms such as Bengali, Spanish and Arabic. Following close on its heels was a new and interesting performance-The Mime show on Swachh Bharat. It was not only humorous but also conveyed an important message which is one of the major social concerns of our nation. This show received a lot of applause and praise by our audience.

Students of class VIII to X performed a variety of dances which comprised the three different cultures of India – Gharba from Gujarat, Lavani from Maharashtra and Ghumar from Rajasthan. The power-packed performance by the students set the stage on fire. Some of the audience who were glued to their seats got into action and were seen grooving to the beats, being seated in their place. A drama on “Beauty is the Beast” was the star attraction of the evening. Every one enjoyed the twist in the story which not everyone is aware of. The story highlighted the theme ‘All that glitters is not gold’.

‘Success is dependent on effort and success is the sum of small efforts.” The second segment of the celebration began with the power-point presentation of the Annual Report for the year 2015-2016. The report unveiled all the activities undertaken during the academic session and highlighting the achievements of the school and the students. Following the report the guests were escorted to the dais as it was time for the stars of MCCS to be honoured for their outstanding performance in the field of academics and extra-curricular activities.

Chief guest, Dr. T. J Quadros gave away the prizes to the meritorious students of the academic year 2014-15. In his address, Dr Quadros spoke about believing in our dream to turn them into reality. He said, “Education in its truest sense is the training of body, mind and soul and congratulated Mount Carmel for imparting such education to the students. Parents should be a role model to their children. They need to spend more time with their children, educate them, teach them morals, manners and how to respect elders.

Education in its general sense is a form of learning in which the knowledge, skills, values, beliefs and habits of a group of people are transferred from one generation to the next through storytelling, discussion, teaching, training, and or research. Education may also include informal transmission of such information from one human being to another. Education frequently takes place under the guidance of others, but learners may also educate themselves . Any experience that has a formative effect on the way one thinks, feels, or acts may be considered educational. As teachers and parents you should play an important role in children’s lives by educating them the right way and also teach them good manners. This will make a big difference in a child’s life”

The top scorers of the Board exams of Class X and XII and the special achievers were felicitated by the President of the function Amrit Paul. While addressing the gathering, he highlighted the importance of education and the participation of parents in the lives of their children. “Today’s children will be tomorrow’s leaders. may God bless these talented students of Mount Carmel central school, who are no doubt, active and energetic” added Amrit Paul.. Once again it was time for higher primary and senior secondary students to exhibit their creative inventiveness. The next performance to enthrall the audience was a subtle blend of meticulous Point work, flowing and precise, weightless acrobatic movements, a Kerala martial-arts dance called Kalaripayattu by the boys of class IX and X. Students of Class XI and XII beautifully portrayed the stages of life from childhood to college days in the form of dance.

As 2015 was declared as the International Year of Light, The Nightingales of MCCS entertained the gathering with their group songs ‘Feel the Light’ by ‘Jelo and ‘Flash Light’ by Jessy J. The Tableau “Darkness to Light” was presented beautifully by students of Classes VI – VIII. It harnessed the fact that ‘Darkness cannot drive out darkness, only LIGHT can do that’. It also brought out the beautiful message which Lord Jesus gave to the world – that we are the light of the world and we need to be messengers of light and love.

As they say that “girls just wanna have fun”, special compliments should be showered on the comperes of the evening namely Aaral, Megha Joshi, Adline and Sharol for rocking the show with their talented punch lines and excellent vocabulary. Indeed a surprise that students of such a age can emcee a show so professionally! The Vote of thanks was delivered by school teacher Veena Madhusudhan. It was indeed a joyous moment for teachers, parents and the students to watch and be a part of this gala event. Great Annual Day! Great Showbiz! Great Extravaganza!…Kudos to the management, teachers, staff and students for putting up a glittering and spectacular razzmatazz!
