Mangaluru: Housemaid who Stole Valuables from Home in Owner’s Absence Arrested

Mangaluru: Manjula (35) from Hassan, who worked in the house of a NABARD Regional Training College lecturer here, has been arrested by the Kavoor police.

She was employed by Prof Somayaji, in his house in Bondel. On account of a death in the family, he had to go to Hyderabad on a month’s leave. While leaving, he left the keys with Manjula for its upkeep.

In an act of absolute breach of faith, she is said to have stolen gold weighing 72 gms, Rs 2,000 in cash and saris from the house. The theft came to the owner’s notice when he returned to the city. A case had been registered in the Kavoor station.

She was subsequently arrested by the police. When presented before a court, she has been sent to judicial custody of 15 days.
