Mangaluru: ASP Vincent Shanthakumar held a meeting to discuss grievances of the Dalit community at the office of the Superintendent of Police, Pandeshwar here, on March 1.

Social activist Shekar presented a case before ASP Kumar. Shekar said, “A minor dalit girl was molested by a person in Uppinangady. The same person attempted to rape another minor girl and when a report was filed, the SI of Uppinangady let off the accused after counseling him.”

He further said, “How can you let an accused of an attempted rape walk freely? Later when we protested, the accused came up with a medical certificate which declared him mentally ill. This is a conspiracy against the Dalits. This SI should be suspended from duty with immediate effect.”

Other issues like ganja menace in Thumbay and Maripalla and cyber crime were discussed. ASP Vincent assured the community of swift legal action.
