Mangaluru: IInd ‘Global Conclave’ to Adopt ‘Konkani Language Plan’

Mangaluru: “Jagotik Konknni Songhotton (JKS – Global Konkani Organisation) is convening the 2nd Global Conclave on Aug. 23, 2015, at Kalaangann, Mangalore – to finalise and adopt the ‘Konkani Language Plan’ – to ensure a secure future for Konkani. Over 200 delegates representing Konkani organisations from around the world are expected to attend” said Eric Ozario- Secretary General, JKS, while addressing the media persons during a press meet held at Mangalore Press Club.

“JKS had organised the 1st Global Conclave in August last year, at which it was decided to initiate Konkani Language Plan, prepare a draft, circulate it among all Konkanis around the world and finalize and adopt it at the 2nd Global Conclave. Accordingly, a Steering Committee, consisting of prominent Konkani leaders and intellectuals, was formed which conducted a Global Survey, based on which the draft has been prepared” added Ozario.

Eric Ozario further said, “Konkani Language Plan will be a historic attempt to ensure a secure future for Konkani language and culture. All Konkanis are requested – to study the draft, submit their observations and corrections, and participate in the Global Conclave. The draft may be procured by emailing – jksglobe@gmail.com. We also hope that this attempt of Konkanis to plan for their language and culture will inspire people of other languages”.

Dr. Ravishankar Rao (Mangalore University) – Steering Committee Member also spoke about the plan. Louis Pinto- Treasurer,JKS, Ms. Harriet Vidyasagar and Lingappa Gowda – both Steering Committee Members were present during the press meet.
