Mangaluru : India’s 1st Fully Factory Manufactured Project to be Launched at Yenepoya University

Mangaluru : KEF Infra, the infrastructure arm of the Singapore-based KEF Holdings will tomorrow hand over India’s first wholly offsite (factory) made project, a residential project for staff and students, to Yenepoya University of Mangaluru. The project, comprising three 8-storey residential buildings covering an area of 1 lakh sq.ft., has been completed in a record nine months, and marks the successful initiation of a game-changing offsite construction technology that helps significantly reduce the duration of construction. In comparison, conventional construction methods would have taken anywhere between 24 and 36 months to complete a project of similar size.


The complex for staff and students, comprising 96 apartments, with each floor featuring 12 two-bedroom units, was completely designed, pre-engineered and manufactured at KEFInfraOne. The state-of-the-art facilities is the only plant in the world to design, pre-engineer and manufacture every element of a building, which include wall panels, hollow core slabs, bathrooms, facades, windows, doors etc. –at a single location.

An inaugural ceremony has been jointly planned for tomorrow, Wednesday, 20 October 2105 by Yenepoya University and KEF Infra wherein 500 distinguished guests will be gather to witness the handover ceremony. Ramanath Rai, Minister of Forest, Environment and Ecology, Karnataka, and U T Khader, Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Karnataka will inaugurate the complex in the presence of Nalin Kumar Kateel, Member of Parliament, Dakshina Kannada, Ivan D’Souza, Member of Legislative Council, B Ahmed Hajee Mohiudeen, Chairman BA Group, Faizal E. Kottikollon, Chairman of KEF Holdings and Yenepoya Abdulla Kunhi, Chancellor of Yenepoya University.


Kottikollon said: “KEF Infra’s construction technology is well poised to bring speed, skill and scale for projects that will enable greater value and impact creation.This is evident from the fact that we were able to handover the Yenepoya residential project in a record nine months since its groundbreaking. If the traditional method of construction were to be deployed, a project of this magnitude would have taken up to two to three years to complete. As education and healthcare are the key sectors we focus on at KEF, we were keen to associate with Yenepoya University as our first client since it is a renowned center of academic excellence in Karnataka.”

He added, “The project underscores our expertise in offsite construction using precast, prefabricated bathrooms, joinery, aluminum glazing and stone processing. For the first time in India, the innovative Graphic Concrete technology from Finland was used for the façade,” said Kottikollon.


Yenepoya Abdulla Kunhi, Chancellor of Yenepoya University, said: “For Yenepoya University, the first private university in the district of Dakshin Kannada, the decision to become the first client of KEF Infra is further testimony to our rich tradition of embracing innovation and new technologies,” said the Chancellor.

Shabana Faizal- Vice Chairperson of KEF, Andre Dienst-General Manager-KEF, Srikanth Srinivasan- Business Development Head-KEF, and Hussain Akther Yenepoya were also present during the press meet.

About the Residential Project :

– 1 lakh sq.ft. residential complex designed and constructed in a record 9 months by KEF Infra

– All elements of the buildings were manufactured at “KEFInfraOne” wholly owned and operated by KEF Infra in Krishnagir, that once completed in December this year, will be the world’s largest integrated facility for offsite construction.

– The 208 bathrooms in the project were fully prefabricated, inclusive of all Mechanical Electrical and Plumbing (MEP), sanitary ware, tiling and fittings, in KEFInfraOne and transported 850km to the project site in Mangalore.

About Yenepoya University

Emboldened by the overwhelming positive response of the community and the students, the management perceived a need to develop into a University, where autonomy and self reliance would place the institutions on the global map and would internally motivate them to higher levels of excellence. The IAE sponsored the formation of a new trust, the Yenepoya University, which after due process of inspection by the University Grants Commission (UGC), was recognized by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India on 27 February 2008, vide their notification No. F.9-11/2007-U.3(A). The Yenepoya University is the first private University in the District of Dakshin Kannada (South Canara).

The University maintains its social commitment through conducting free medical, eye & dental camps, in the community. It has also adopted 2 nearby villages for comprehensive and total health care and prevention (Kotepura&Balepuni). Special attention is being given to identify and treat HIV patients. We offer total health care support to a local HIV/AIDS Care and Support Centre. The YMC also runs Prevention of Parent to Child Transmission (PPTCT) & Integrated Counseling and Testing Centre (ICTC) programmmes.

  1. It is proved that Medical Education generates more revenue than any other Educational Institutions. It is amazing to see the transformation of Deralakatte area with Educational Institutions lined up.
