Mangaluru: Janardhan Poojary held a press meet at the district Congress Office here, on February 27.

Addressing the mediapersons Poojary said, “After the Chief Minister has clarified the issue of his expensive watch, former Chief Minister, Kumaraswamy has made an accusation that the watch Siddaramaiah wears was stolen from Dr Sudhakar Shetty. This accusation was made even though Dr Sudhakar had given a statement that it was not the same watch. Is it not a criminal offence to pin a false accusation on someone?”

He further said, “I would like to ask the former Prime Minister, Deve Gowda. Do you accept that your son has done wrong just for the sake of political gain? The CM has declared the watch as a state asset and will also pay the taxes and according to the law, he has time till June 1 to file the income tax returns. He hasn’t done anything wrong legally.”

He asked, why the BJP had not raised any questions when the PM had worn a suit worth Rs 10 lakh which was embroidered with his initials in golden thread. “Yeddiyurappa, your well wishers post page long advertisements and spend lakhs of rupees. Who are these well wishers? This is not a time to concentrate on these matters, instead the leaders should concentrate on providing relief to the people of drought hit areas. The Finance Minister has said he will reduce the rate of subsidies, this will further add to the woes of the poor. I thank God that the crude oil prices have come down, because if they had not then the economy would be in tatters,” he said.

Speaking about the ban on sand mining, he said, “There is no sand available for construction. How will the poor survive without work? Don’t the leaders understand this?”

The mediapersons however boycotted rest of the press meet as Poojary refused to answer the question of a Journalist, which soon followed by a war of words. Other journalists present stood in support of the journalist and walked out in protest. “This should have happened long back. They think we journalists attend press meet just to drink coffee and eat fries,” said a journalist.

Former Mayor Mahabala Marla and others were also present.

  1. “This should have happened long back. They think we journalists attend press meet just to drink coffee and eat fries” – Report quoting a journalist.

Well, I am glad that our journalists are finally waking up to the reality of how they are being bullied into silence by Congress party and its minority vote bank. The decades of bullying and harassment combined with quite frankly some amount of ignorance and intellectual laziness have turned our ‘journalists’ into a group of voiceless professionals known for ‘taking orders’ from Congress party. They show their ‘courage’ only when it comes to attacking RSS/BJP!! There are many truly brave and dynamic individuals in journalism who are being discouraged from doing their duty. In this process, journalism has lost a great deal of respect in the eyes of people.

Once again, I am glad to see some journalists realizing the situation and showing some true courage. Good luck!!
