Mangaluru: KMC to Hold Training for Anganwadi Teachers on International Day of Disabled Persons

Mangaluru: The Department of Audiology and Speech Language Pathology, Kasturba Medical College will be conducting a 3 day training program on 1st, 2nd & 3rd December for Anganwadi teachers on disability related matters. The present attempt at KMC is to raise the awareness among Anganwadi workers about capabilities of persons with disabilities and how we can work together to create an inclusive environment.

The main objective of this program is to ensure, enlightened, efficient and committed key functionaries to further the cause of empowerment of persons with disability. It also aims to create awareness about disability related legislation, development programs, schemes and programs for the benefits of such individuals, rehabilitation and referral services. The training intends to create awareness and sensitize towards prevention, early identification, intervention, rehabilitation and mainstreaming of persons with disabilities.

The Department of Audiology and Speech Language Pathology at KMC Attavar is the one and only department in the state to receive a grant from the Rehabilitation Council of India to conduct a training program of this kind. The 3 day training module includes talks and interaction by renowned personalities from the disability sector. More than 60 Anganwadi workers from various parts of Dakshina Kannada district (Bantwal, Sulia, Puttur, Mangaluru Urban & Rural, Belthangady and Vitla) are expected to participate and avail the benefits of this initiative.
