Mangaluru: Konkani Study Chair and Research Centre to Open in Mangalore University

Mangaluru: Addressing the media persons during the press meet held at Mangalore Press Club,. Roy Castelino-President of Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy said, “On 12 June Karnataka State Minister, RV Deshpande will inaugurate the Konkani Study Chair and Research Centre in Mangalore University Campus. To meet the needs of this project, CM Siddaramaiah had sanctioned Rs 2 crore in the budget”.

Castelino further said, “This project will help to develop Konkani language and also in the research of Konkani linguistic science. It will create interest in the youth to imbibe Konkani language. It would also help various conventions and workshops for Konkani writers, artists, poets and litterateurs. Also help to develop educational tools like books, syllabus, and various methods to teach Konkani language, right from nursery class to the level of post graduation. It will also organize online degree courses, comprising of correspondence and postal education projects”.

“We have appointed ambassadors to increase the number of Konkani learning students from sixth standard in the schools. Raghavendra Rao will be ambassador for Dakshina Kannada, G Venkatesh Pai for Udupi and Ullhas Kamath as ambassador for Karwar” added Castelino.

Basti Vaman Shenoy, Lawrence D’Souza, Amruth Shenoy and Dr Devdas Rai were also present during the press meet.
