Mangaluru: In a daring act of burglary, thieves broke into the house of S Satish Rao, a retired bank employee, located near the old post office in Surathkal late Saturday night, and walked away with a big loot.

As the family members were fast asleep, the miscreants are thought to have climbed up a tree near the rooftop and gained access through the door of the upper floor. Rao has suspected that the theft took place between 11-30 pm on Friday and 6 next morning.

Rs 10,000 in cash and an assortment of jewellery including bangles, chains, ornaments studded with precious stones and rings have been taken away.
