Mangaluru: Man from Kuppepadavu Dies in Saudi Road Mishap on Way to Umrah Visit

Mangaluru: A report from Saudi Arabia says that Shaukat Ali (26) from Haleneeru in Kuppepadavu in the taluk died in a road mishap that took place in the Gulf kingdom.

A bus belonging to Najma group was carrying Umrah pilgrims from Dammam to the Islamic holy cities. At a friend’s insistence, Shaukat Ali is said to have taken over the wheel.


Around 11-30 pm IST on Sunday night, the bus hit a trailer, as a result of which Shaukat died. Umrah is a visit to Makkah and Madina outside the Hajj season.

Having lost his father at a young age, Shaukat had taken up the responsibility of taking care of his mother and three sisters. Securing a driver’s job, he had gone to Saudi Arabia for better prospects. By hard work, he had saved money and got his sisters married.

Family sources said that he was to come to India soon for the housewarming of his new place. He also had plans to get married during his holidays this time.

All his dreams were shattered by the mishap. Besides, his mother has no son to support her.
