Mangaluru: Man Possessing Blackbuck Pelts Arrested near KSRTC Bus-stand

Mangaluru: A flying squad of the forest police from the city, on receipt of reliable information, arrested Maruti Shivappa Shigatti (27) hailing from Haveri, who was found possessing two blackbuck pelts near the KSRTC bus-stand in Bijai here.

He is said to have been looking for a buyer for them. At the time of the raid, Badesab, also from Haveri district, an associate of Maruti, escaped from being held.

A case has been registered at the Barke police station.

The blackbuck, Antilope cervicapra, which is also known as ‘chinkara’ and ‘krishna mriga’ is an antelope native to the Indian subcontinent. It has been classified as near-threatened by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).
