Mangaluru: Man Wanted in Counterfeit Currency Case, Absconding since 2006, Arrested

Mangaluru: The CCB police have arrested Moidin Kunhi aka Moidu (43) from Ayyanakatte in Sullia taluk in connection with printing and circulating counterfeit currency notes.

The matter had been unearthed in 1999 and a case had been registered in Mangaluru north police station. The counterfeit currency ring was operating in DK district and the neighbouring Kerala state.

He had been arrested that time. But during the hearing in the following years, he abstained from the court and subsequently went into hiding in 2006.

A court in the city sentenced the others involved to 10 years in jail. Moidu was also handed out punishment, but in absentia.

The CCB lately took up the cases of those evading arrest for over ten years. Since Moidu was missing for about 12 years, they went on his trail. On a tip-off that he had taken shelter in Hunsur in Mysuru district, they went there and arrested him.

The case has been handed over to the north police station for pursuing the matter.
