Mangaluru: Man who Asked for Water and Looted Lonely Woman at Home Arrested

Mangaluru: In July earlier this year, a stranger had arrived at the home of a lonely woman in a government housing colony in Kavoor and asked for drinking water. As her attention was diverted, the man had snatched her gold chain and escaped from there.

Another person was also involved in the incident. Taranath from Shaktinagar was first arrested by the police. Another,

Ravi (41), had been evading arrest. A warrant was issued against him by a court. The police laid a trap for him and nabbed him from the house of a female acquaintance in Ishwaramangala in Puttur taluk.

Interrogations have revealed that he had escaped from custody from Chikkamagaluru in 2001, and was involved

in several thefts involving a jeep, gold shops in Gangavati and Manipal, a bike from Suratkal and the like.

After coming out of jail, he lived in the KHB colony in Kavoor. In March, he was caught on charge of a theft in the same colony.

While on bail, he is said to have given an interview to the visual media, levelling baseless charges against the police.
