Mangaluru: Mangala Stadium to Host Junior Olympics – 2016 on January 15

Mangaluru: Kreeda Bharati held a press meet regarding Junior Olympics – 2016 at Hotel Janatha Deluxe here, on January 13.

Speaking to the mediapersons, MLC Capt. Ganesh Karnik said, “Kreeda Bharati with the support from various Physical Directors will organize ‘Junior Olympics – 2016,’ a district level sport and athletic meet at the Mangala Stadium on January 15 and 16. High school children aged between 10 and 17 can participate in this event.”

Already about 3500 participants had registered for the event. “We are expecting nearly 4500 participants for the meet. Food and accommodation will be provided furthermore, security arrangements are also undertaken. Cash prizes will be given to the winners along with certificates which will feature the winners photograph too,” said Capt. Ganesh Karnik.

President of Kreeda Bharati, K Chandrashekar Rai said, “The main objective of the meet is to provide young children with a platform to showcase their skills in athletics and sports. Already 90% of the preparations are complete.” The meet will host various athletic events, wrestling, handball, kabaddi, volleyball and swimming. “We are organizing such an event so that other organizations also realize the need to promote sporting activities among young children,” he added.

The meet will be inaugurated by the Union Minister for Chemicals and Fertilizers AnantKumar on January 15 at 9:30 am and will be presided by MP Naleen Kumar Kateel. The closing ceremony will be held on January 16 at 4:30 pm, the ceremony will be presided by Mayor Jacintha Vijay Alfred and District Minister in-charge B Ramanath Rai.

Capt. Ganesh said, “All participants must reach the venue on time and should possess a passport or stamp size photograph with them.”

Convener of Kreeda Bharati, Bhojaraj Kalladka; President of DK Physical Director’s Association, KH Nayak; Dayanand Muda and Lily Pais were also present.
