Mangaluru : “Water..water everywhere-but not a drop to drink”- that’s what many residents of the city have been commenting for the last five days, since there was no supply of MCC due to water pipe burst near Kannur. “But I do see the good side of water now. How good it is when you’re really thirsty, how it glitters and gurgles! How alive it is! as said by G.K. Chesterton- this quote holds good for the present situation, where city residents have received water since Wednesday night. Even though water is available now, there have been a few complaints -like not much water pressure, water little muddy etc etc–but the residents have to bear and go by the saying-” Something is better than nothing!

The Past………….

For the last five days due to the scarcity of MCC water, many city residents had to depend on MCC water supply through tankers, where they had to fetch the water using buckets and other containers. Also many residents paid from Rs 600-Rs 1000 for water supplied by some private water tanker owners. Anyways, finally relief has come and residents don’t have to whine over shortage of water. It’s all good now-drink plenty of water and stay healthy!

…….The Present

According to MCC sources, the leakage in two main water supply lines at Kannur between Thumbay vented dam and Padil has been plugged and pumping of water has started since Wednesday late afternoon. The MCC had to bear all these consequences due to unknown persons dumping debris, soil and land-filing along the main water supply lines near Kannur. Due to the heavy load of all the debris etc, the pipes resulted in cracks, and water started to gush out. The MCC and district authorities are trying to find out as to who dumped all the debris, soil etc, which created all this mess.

Since the MCC and district authorities have found out that many illegal tapping of water has been done on these water pipe lines, they are considering of installing modern sensor system, like the one used to monitor any theft of fuel from fuel supply lines. The Corporation is also trying to identify the borders of land acquired by it for laying the water pipelines and also mark the boundaries. MCC is also trying to remove the encroachments along the pipelines. In the meantime, MLA JR Lobo, district and MCC authorities are keen in identifying the persons who have dumped all the debris etc, and take action against them.

  1. Glad to see that the water service is being restored. Now the real question is – Would they ever find the real culprits and punish them? Would they learn lessons from this incident and do more inspection of supply lines on regular basis?

Kannur being one of the ‘vote bank’ locations, I doubt if Congress will ever find the real culprits. Also, if past is any indication, our officials never learn from past mistakes. In other words, nothing will change!!

    • Glad to see that the water service is being restored. – Rampa

Say Rampa, do you think that the water service was restored because you JUST happened to “look-up” both Nalina Kumara and Lobo regarding the issue of potholes on Mangy roads?

Or, did you put in a word with Kim Kardashian, Kayne West and Caitlyn Jenner (the CREAM of Yumreeki ‘culture’ – if Rampa is to be believed) and hey presto – water services were restored?

      Over to you ya RampaNNA.
