Mangaluru: Reacting to a report that doctors in Puttur were planning to begin an agitation from Aug 17 to protest against a case of assault on medical personnel and rampage at a hospital, state minister of health and family welfare U T Khader gave an assurance that action would be taken against the culprits

He also appealed to the medical community not to resort to any strike since their profession was an essential service, it would affect human lives in general.

He was speaking to mediapersons at the old airport complex where the first batch of Haj pilgrims were being seen off on Sunday. He said that the case had not come to his attention initially.

Now that he was fully aware of it, he would ensure that the culprits would be brought to book, while also condemning such acts of violence against the medical professionals.
