Mangaluru: No Monkeying around! Two Children Holding Animal and Begging Rescued

Mangaluru: Two girls, aged 12 and 4 years, were found holding a monkey and begging near the Kankanady and Bendoorwell circles on Wednesday.

On receiving information, children’s helpline organizations and Child Welfare Committee personnel took them in to custody and rescued them.

On enquiry, they revealed that they had come with their mother from Nagpur in Maharashtra some days ago. Her husband had deserted her. On account of poverty and with no means for subsistence, they had come here to earn by begging.

How they got the protected animal is yet to be known. Since wildlife laws are strict and tending them privately is prohibited, forest personnel are likely to step into the matter.
