Mangaluru: Ashwin Shenoy, a resident of Badiadka in Kasaragod district, had arrived in the city on work. On his way back, he was waiting for a bus at the Pumpwell circle late in the evening of Nov 6.
Two strangers, who were going in the direction of Thokkottu, stopped their car and asked him where he wanted to go. When he mentioned his destination, they told him that they too were going to Kerala and offered a lift.
Finding them well-dressed and friendly, and since there were not many buses late in the evening, he accepted the offer in good faith and joined them.
As the car reached Beeri past Thokkottu, it was diverted towards Madoor, where the two persons reportedly snatched a gold chain of three and a half sovereign gold which Shenoy had on him. Then they pushed him out of the car and abandoned him there.
On receiving a complaint from Shenoy, the Ullal police pursued the matter and arrested one of the culprits, Moidin Faizal aka Pajju, a resident of Kunjattur Padavu in Manjeshwar.
Another of them, ‘British’ Ajmal, is still at large and the police are searching for him. The gold chain and the car have been seized.
