Mangaluru: Earlier it was common to receive fake calls from persons claiming to be top bank officials, asking for passward and ATM card details, which ultimately led to fraudulent withdrawal of large amounts.

Now one does not have to receive any calls. Money disappears by itself from the accounts. This has been a serious problem which the banks have to address, since the very wisdom of keeping the money in the bank is being in question. Many have begun wondering if maintaining bank accounts is safe at all.

In yet another case of its kind, Godwin Lewis, a resident of Kavoor, has lost Rs 64,900 from his account held at the Bunts’ Hostel road branch of Axis Bank without his knowledge or instructions.

On Aug 24 night, a message was received on Godwin’s mobile about the withdrawal. On enquiring at the bank, it came to light that unknown persons had got the amount transferred under a transaction by purnapdealcom/gurgaon.com.

His wife has filed a complaint at the Bunder police station in this regard.
