Mangaluru: Participation of People in Bundhs Should be Purely Voluntary – UP Shivanand

Mangaluru: ‘Suddi Vedike’ held a press meet at the Mangalore Press Club Urwa here, on January 6.

Addressing the mediapersons, Dr UP Shivanand said, “Suddi Vedike has started off with its movement against involuntary bundh and communal violence along with the support of Suddi Bidugade. From the past three months there are several intolerant activities taking place in Puttur, Sullia and Bantwal district.

Accordingly many bundhs have taken place in these districts which have caused many problems within the soceity. The participation of people in bundhs should be purely voluntary and no one should be forced to observe a bundh against his or her wish.”

He further said, “In reality, the organisers of bundhs enforce the same without any regards for people’s wishes. People who wish to go out or try to work during bundhs cannot do so. The major victims of such bundhs are daily wage earners, who have to go through severe hardships for their living. Serious patients cannot reach hospitals for emergency medical treatment. There should be prior discussions held before calling a bundh.”

We started this movement earlier and we got good opinions from the people of Puttur, Sullia and Bantwal.
