Mangaluru: Repair Work on Ullal Bridge Creates Traffic Jam and Mess for Eight Hours

Mangaluru: The new parallel bridge on NH 66 across river Netravati near Japopinamogaru, commonly called the Ullal bridge, is being given a facelift and shut down for movement of vehicles.

Traffic could move only on the old bridge. This resulted in heavy jam on the southern and northern side of the bridge, since no alternative routes exist. This also put pressure on the narrow Mahakalipadpu Morgan’s Gate road, which too gets shut at the level-crossing every time a train passes.

Office-goers arriving into the city, students, doctors travelling to institutions in Deralakatte and other staff and students going to the university campus in Mangalagangotri were put to severe hardships. Snarls could be seen right from Pumpwell circle right up to Kolya.

As usual, the one-upmanship of city bus drivers and two-wheeler-driver added fuel to the fire. However, the police and the homeguards did their best to control the situation, which continued for eight hours. The rush got cleared after peak hours.
