Mangaluru: Retired Tahsildar Fined for Failing to Provide Information under RTI

Mangaluru: The Karnataka Information Commission in Bengaluru has imposed a fine on retired tahsildar Mohan Rao, currently a resident of Bantwal, for failing to provided informaation to an applicant under the Right to Information Act 2005.

Rao, prior to his retirement, had served as tahsildar and public information officer in the taluk office at Bantwal.

On August 29, 2013, Ramanna Shetty of Bondantila village had applied for information concerning amendment to his RTC record, which Rao had not complied with.

Shetty complained to the Commission in this matter. The commission has instructed the sub-treasury office in Bantwal to collect the fine amount of Rs 10,000 from Rao either in a lump-sum or by way of deduction from his pension amount.
