Mangaluru: State Bank of India (Mangalore Branch) felicitated St Agnes Special School’s Mohammed Fardeen for being selected in the football team to represent India in the Special Olympics to be held in Los Angeles, USA, at the St Agnes Special School premises here on July 17.
The regional manager of SBI, Kundar Rao said, “It is an honour for us that Fardeen was selected among the students belonging to 136 special schools in Karnataka to represent India. My manager after coming to know about Fardeen through the media, directed me to immediately sanction funds to Fardeen since it is a matter of great pride to the state.” Later Rao handed over a cheque of Rs 1 lakh.
Speaking on the occasion, Fardeen’s father C A Farooq said that he is very happy for his son. “We are very lucky that Fardeen was selected for an international-level event.” He thanked Fardeen’s coach, Narayan Sherigar, for his guidance, support and dedication and everyone for their support.
Narayan Sherigar, PE instructor of St Agnes Special School, said that he and the institution were very proud that one of their students would be representing India at the international level.
Fardeen thanked everyone for their support. Mradulla compered the programme. Venkatram delivered the vote of thanks. Principal Sr Shruthi M, students and faculty of the school and others were present.
